Finger plate

Finger Plates

Finger plates are pieces of metal and porcelain which are mounted on doors to save the door from greasy little finger marks, scratches, wear and tear, and greasy big finger marks from people opening it! You can see, with a home in which everything has been restored, you would want to preserve your hard work – finger plates help you do that.

The most popular designs of finger plates:

Finger plates can be found in many sizes and styles. They are popular among both collectors and home decorators and show up often in the antique hardware market. They were also popular as an advertising medium – obviously everybody would look ta them to see where to put their hand when opening a door – but now that use is rare, simply because finger plates are so rare!.

Most finger plates offered in our portfolio are made in brass finish, often being inspired by Victorian period furniture and hardware dating back to the end of the 19th century. There are also French pressed brass finger plates, or you can opt for the Edwardian type. We keep rectangular, hexagonal or more sophisticated decorative shapes of finger plates. Some of them have an unusual detail, or they can be plain but beautifully polished.

How to clean your finger plate:

If your finger plate is made of a solid brass, you will have to clean it every month or so. The best way to clean brass is to wipe it with a soft cloth. To keep the finger plate clean you will need a special brass polish which can be purchased on our website.
