Description:
The style of these latches is severe, yet their feeling on your hand is unexpectedly gentle as they curve naturally into your grip. The cross patterning on the backplate adds to the natural texture of the malleable iron, which has been reheated after casting in order to strengthen it. Perfect or homes where the beauty, not the devil, is in the details.

This product is made of highest quality malleable iron, which, after casting, is subjected to a heat treatment process known as annealing. In this process castings are heated to around 1000C for up to 100 hours whilst in contact with haematite ore. The ore acts as an oxidising agent which removes carbon from the casting. It is the presence of carbon in cast iron which causes its brittleness and removing some makes the casting stronger or more malleable.

Supplied by Kirkpatrick Ltd., a company set up by William Kirkpatrick in the year 1855. His son, Vincent Kirkpatrick, succeeded his father and presided over the incorporation of the business as a Limited Company in 1901. Upon incorporation, many loyal and long serving employees were given a shareholding. This started a tradition which continues to this day. Many of the descendents of those first shareholders still retain their interest in the Company and the Kirkpatrick family still also retain a shareholding.

With over 150 years experience in ironmongery production they are a guarantee of the highest quality craftmanship!
