Oops, Forgot To Shut the Door!

If your house is stocked with our super-stylin’ door furniture, you won’t be forgetting to shut the door. In fact, you won’t be missing a single opportunity to run your fingers over their surfaces from smooth to sexily textured, grasping every twist and fold … allowing them to pivot on their fluid, fabulous hinges …

Ahem. Excuse me.

As we were saying, forgetting to shut the door is often the stuff of obsession. Especially if you have just left on a month-long holiday, you’ve gone to an important meeting and aren’t sure whether the dogs can reach your daughter’s rabbit in the backyard, or you can hear children’s giggles coming from under the kitchen sink, where everything caustic, nasty and unnatural lives. But no matter how much that uncertainty grips your heart as you get on the plane to go to your vacation (Did I shut the door? Did I lock it? Did I turn the gas off? Did I let the gimp out of its cage so it could get to the kitchen tap?!), it is when you don’t even realise you haven’t shut the door that the most hilarious consequences ensue!

Forgetting to close the door doesn’t usually entail losing your job. Unless you are this Fedex delivery guy - oopsy daisy! The Fedex vans all say on the side of them that there is ‘No Cash On Board’ … but that wouldn’t really matter when you just grab whatever you wanted out of the back :) Or indeed, just hop in, turn the key and take it all somewhere more convenient for you to sort out!

One of the most artistic examples of forgetting-to-shut-the-door -ery we have here is the ‘Target employee forgot to close the door’ video.

I sort of don’t blame him. After all, he probably pushed all of those carts into the truck, and they were bloody heavy! Why should they move anywhere, when it took every Newton-metre of force he could muster to push the damn things on there?

Unfortunately the laws of physics won out against the logic of muscles this time. Don’t you love the way they cascade out of the truck like a waterfall, though?! I can almost hear Mozart playing in the background … beautiful!

The person that forgot to close the door on the snow car probably didn’t actually forget to close the door … they probably forgot to replace the windscreen, rear windscreen and door windows instead :-) If you look at the way the snow is packed where the doors were, with indents of handles and window rollers, you can see that the car obviously had its doors shut when the snow started. It just sounds better as a photo title than ‘Oops, forgot to replace the rear windscreen’. It also sounds better than ‘Oops, forgot that it’s probably a trashed car which wasn’t going to drive anywhere anyway …’. And it certainly sounds better than terrible, terrible sarcasm!

And if you know the feeling of getting on a plane, worrying about whether you closed the front door or not, perhaps you should shift your worry a little more towards the present! The flight attendant on this flight certainly knows that feeling … only now she never, ever forgets to close the door! There are various witty comments about this photo on its host site, including
-  ‘This is how Fedex was able to drive UPS out of business’,
-  ‘GOD Bob what did you eat? Damn that’s rank. We got passengers to pick up go back and air out the cabin ….. With what there’s no Glade.  —-  I don’t know, open a door or something. GOD that’s disgusting’, and
-  ‘Skydiver: “Are you sure we’re high enough?”  Pilot: “Just pull your cord quickly.”

I’m not sure which observation I found more amusing :)
