Another edition in the story of your door in the future begins with these aromatherapy door handles from free:go design. They are very simply shaped, but include a revolutionary new idea … incorporating aromatherapy with your door handles!
There have been plenty of electronics-related innovations when it comes to doors and door handles, and all sorts of new ideas regarding automation and security. But until now, amazingly, nobody has thought to just make the thing smell a bit nicer! When you do some research (or if you have ever received one of those daily-germ emails), you will discover that quite a lot of door handles (although not yours, surely, and definitely not ours!) can be quite unhygienic. Some door handles have been found to be less hygienic than toilet seats themselves. Incidentally, brass and copper kill germs, so your gorgeous classical handles from Architectural Classics also save you time on cleaning. Aside from that though, these aromatherapy door handles mean that even if you haven’t quite got to wiping those handles over yet, they will always smell nice, and leave your hands smelling the same way!
They come in a range of five colours, as you can see. The white handles smell like vanilla, the purple ones like Jasmine, the red ones like roses, and the orange ones smell like cinnamon. In a very Asian twist, the black ones are scented like opium – not sure if that would be particularly appealing, if it is anything like the dank alleyways in parts of the city that you must rush past! Surely they mean opium poppies – much nicer.
The handle area is made of thermoplastic elastomer, which incidentally reduces static shocks if you are prone to them. They also have a striking, soft feel – much different and much warmer than ordinary metal knobs.
Looking at the shape of these in the picture, they seem quite unwieldy, however the handles are actually quite slimline when viewed from above, and the thermoplastic elastomer makes them easy to grip and turn.
The company that makes them has a web page all in Italian, but when you see their very individual and interesting designs for the door handles, it won’t matter whether you can read the language or not. They make some awesome handles woith themes like ‘zoo’, which is all animal prints, ’stoned’, where the handles are made from different types of marble or stone (not just patterned to look that way), and ‘leo’, which is a range of light-up door handles. We’ve explored this concept before, with the stop-go, lock-unlock door handles in the Beyond Door Thousand series. However, these ones come in different colours, all much more attractive than red and green. You can also have different colour lights on the opposite sides of the door. The ‘cult’ section has some of the most interesting door handles of all – freeform metal creations that have spines, ribs, amoebic shaping or knife-like edges.
This is a great site for door handles all round, and not just for the scent-crazy! If you are looking at the site, you can find the aromatherapy handles under the ‘no shock’ section.
Takes a woman to think of that sort of thing!
I had a look, and they also stop you from getting static shocks. That is why they’re called no-shock. Not because the notion that someone made a door handle smell nicer is not a suyrprise to you.
Why don’t they make door handles taste nicer? I’ve often wished that.
Yeah! And why don’t they make them LOOK nicer, too???
i have several aromatherapy candles at home and they can really soothe my stressed body.
