22 Doors…

22 Doors

It seems that lovers of antiques are also lovers of good food, good drinks and good atmosphere – due to the popularity of Twenty-Two Doors in Seattle. Twenty-Two Doors is a bar that got its name from the 22 doors which make up the counter and back bar cabinetry, as well as the bi-fold doors characteristic of western pubs.

The doors are not just polished, with glass sheets over the top to make it easy to slide drinks along the bar … they retain all of their original hardware, including latches, handles and locks, so your fine, crystal-feel wine can sit alongside a fine, crystal clear cut glass door knob. If even the drinks are in excellent company, you can imagine that your night should also be great! The doors come from the now-defunct Camlin Hotel, and are made of solid mahogany … rich, warm and atmospheric. The owners have carried on the antique theme, saving money and also creating a really interesting place to drink, with railings from the old Seattle Opera House, chandeliers from the Eugene Red Lion Hotel, and wood carvings from old Chinese restaurants. The blue vinyl barstools have proven to be a talking point also. It is sort of like a museum that you can have a rollicking good time at.

The atmosphere is warm and relaxing, with soft red-orange lighting and open fireplaces. This complements the rich mahogany woods, the golds and velvets of the salvaged furniture and hardware that make the bar unique. The impressive rescued hotel chandelier in the bar also lends a bit of elegance to a watering hole!

They have 22 drinks, to carry on their theme, and looking at the menu should make everyone at the table’s mouth water, whatever your poison or passion. With names like Pink Lady, Flips and Sours, Raspberry Choco-Mint cocktail, and Brooklynite, and exotic ingredients to go with the names: Hangar One Mandarin Blossom, Nutmeg, honey and lime, or lil’ Chambord kiss. The brunch is similarly themed, and the music, soft and soulful, suits the atmosphere well also. They have had great reviews from the Seattle weekly… we know you are going for the doors, but you’ll stay for the rest.

I’ve been here and I don’t know how the heck they keep those handles and latches intact! It’s like sitting in an exam room full of nervous students who are all clicking their pens, everyone is like flicking hte latches and turning the knobs and stuff while they are drinking.

But the FLips and Sours drink is great
