Have you ever been out prowling the streets of a fairly rich but not very secure looking area, trying to pick front door lock after front door lock, finding it a hopeless task in the dark, and gone home extremely disheartened? It’s hard telling your ten children they’ll have nothing to eat because nobody installs motion sensing lights at their front door to help you pick locks with anymore, isn’t it!
Go on - have a heart! And if you don’t want to help burglars find your front door lock to pick it (well, it would be one less thing to put on your insurance claim - plus if...

Have you ever felt that karma is trying to balance itself through your doors? That every squeak on a windy night that keeps you awake is penance for something that you aren’t quite sure what it is? That perhaps that time the car door slammed on your fingers in the wind wasn’t just an accident? Well, here is an even more clear-cut example of the gods working through the doors!
Perhaps this guy had slammed one too many doors in his own house - perhaps he cruelly neglected a polished finish on his lever handles or left loose screws to flap about in a backplate - whatever he did, Janus...

You want your home design to stand out from the crowd? To be a bit different to your friends? Have a home that is completely unique? (well, almost … there is at least one person that has created this effect before) …
Just dig a few feet of earth out from under the foundations of one side of your house.
No, the effect of uniqueness does not come from the fact that one end of the house is completely open to the air, with open-brick features (lying around on the ground!) and splintered exposed beams. It works, honest, I’ve seen it Mum! The Crooked House pub in England has used a structural...

You know, we used to think we sold every sort of door accessory imaginable. Most people just have a simple door knob or lever handle on their door, right? Well, we have door knockers, finger plates, escutcheons, espagnolettes … we thought that if you named it, we’d have it.
Well, we were wrong (sob! sob sob!).
We have found another sort of really striking doorway accent, available on Amazon in Germany. They are called indoor frames … or at least they are in German … made by a company called Eigengold. Truly, as the company describes it, “The meaning of in - door now becomes a...

We have a biggie for you this month! Some of you may already be Etsy converts, and some may be uninitiated - but Etsy really is a way of life and a great way to accent your home design in a unique way.
Etsy is pretty much an open craft fair, but with plenty of products made by professionals, from new materials with excellent skills! Most of the products on Etsy are handmade, but there are some machine made items, or items that are sourced from somewhere other than the direct seller and their ‘handmade’ status can’t be verified.
You can choose to search for a term within the...

It’s a little luxury having someone to open the door for you, isn’t it?! It feels lovely just being able to slide on through that empty space, without all that arm-wracking effort of holding the door open by yourself. Or perhaps that is just because the most exercise I’ve had all week was when my mouse fell off the desk and I had to lean down and pick it up off the floor … oh, the pain!
Well, with one of these alternative door knobs you can have the pleasure of having a cute little character to open the door for you, whatever time of day or night you need to pass through it!...

We have plenty of great examples of artistic door handles, rim locks, door knockers and other hardware on site. That is our raison d’etre, in fact. We have plenty that have pictures, intricate scenes, life-like represntations of various things … but we certainly don’t have anything as cool, intricate, or teeth-grittingly hilarious as the planned Star Wars promotional fridge pictured, with Han Solo frozen in carbonite on the door!
You callous people that saw Return of the Jedi, laughted when Han was frozen in Jabba the Hut’s enclave, and decided that you would leave him there...

You’ll sympathise with the dog in this clip if you are one of those people that always reaches for door handles at the height they are set to in your own house, and also if you have ever walked into an exceptionally clean glass door!
The glass has been removed from a front door, while the outer frame of the door has been left there. The dog still waits for the door to be opened to go out, despite the fact that his owner walks through the hole in the door in front of him. Definitely a creature of habit, and conditioned to Pavlov’s own standards! It does seem rather cruel after a while...

Before you start reading, we do stock door stops here at Architectural Classics. Big ones, little ones, tall ones, short ones, ones that squiggle and squirm. However! We also know the value of making something yourself, so we thought we’d let you know how to make these sweet, personalisable, low-cost and creative door stops… while munching on our biscuits with that authentic flavour of burnt flour and sipping on an iced coffee that is decidedly more ice than coffee! The joys of self-expression
Pyramid door stops are a very cute, and infinitely personalisable alternative to regular door...
